Clay Court vs Hard Court: Adapting Your Game

I primarily play on hard courts but I'm entering a clay court tournament next month. I've played on clay a few times but never seriously prepared for it.

What I know about clay:
• Points are longer
• Ball bounces higher and slower
• More sliding and movement
• Different strategy needed

Questions:
  1. How should I adjust my serve strategy?

  2. What shots work best on clay?

  3. How do I improve my sliding technique?

  4. Should I change my string setup?

  5. Any specific footwork drills for clay?

I've heard that clay court tennis is more about patience and construction of points rather than power. Is this true?

Also, what are the best clay court shoes? I currently wear regular tennis shoes but I've heard clay court specific shoes make a big difference.

Any clay court specialists here who can share some wisdom?

Clay court adjustment took me about 6 months. Focus on sliding practice and hitting with more topspin. Your patience will improve naturally. Try doing sliding drills without the ball first!

The mental game is huge on clay. You have to embrace the longer points and stay patient. I recommend watching some Nadal matches to see proper clay court tactics in action!
